Winner: Best Actor (Forest Whitaker)
"The Last King of Scotland" portrays an amazing example of complete ignorance and deception through a behind-the-scenes story of Nick Garrigan (James McAvoy), a young man who becomes the personal physician for the corrupt Ugandan president, Idi Amin (Forest Whitaker). While Garrigan slowly realizes the horror that is developing outside his walls of luxury and comfort he struggles with his personal desire for materialism and his original passion for doing good.

Forest Whitaker definitely deserves the various awards for his acting in this film. His portrayal of the two-faced Idi Amin was so believable that it struck fear into me as his character toyed with his subjects and the people of Uganda. One of the only complaints that I had about the film was that I wish there was more information on what was actually going on outside the government walls. Though, the point of the film was to show everything through the eyes of Nick Garrigan, it would have been nice for those who are less aware of the historical context of the movie to see a little bit more of what he saw as he began to understand Amin's true intentions.
