Rain Dogs
tom waits / 1985

Rain Dogs is one of the most creative albums I have ever heard. Tom Waits' career spans more than three decades and his work spans many styles from jazz to blues to rock. He has created some of the most original music of all time and this album is full of gorgeous poetry and some macabre storytelling that causes it to stand alone as a creative masterpiece.

Soft Bulletin
flaming lips / 1999

If you concentrate while listening to this album, you'll get a strange feeling that you are part of a movie and this is the soundtrack. You won't know why or how you reached that thought, and you may not understand the story line but just let it all go, relax, and enjoy the layers upon layers of gorgeous arrangements of guitar, piano and various other sounds that mix together so perfectly that they will all sound like one incredible instrument.

Exile On Main St.
the rolling stones / 1972

Whenever I listen to Exile on Main St. I am blown away by the incredible energy that pours out of every song. The driving force of this rock and roll was built on a foundation of traditional blues. Every song is unique, yet the raw blues influence holds the album together.

OK Computer
radiohead / 1997

In a decade of new ideas and a new acceptance of rock and roll, Radiohead showed the world a perfectly new sound. The critically acclaimed album, The Bends, won Raidohead much attention, and OK Computer proved that they were one of the greatest bands in the world. Kid A was released later and showed the world that Radiohead will continue to change the world of music. The decision to rank OK Computer higher than Kid A was made due to the incredible influence that OK Computer has had on the music world. When judging each album purely by it's creativity and quality, there was no way to compare them. Each has a different pupose and each is as original as the other.

#6
Abbey Road
the beatles / 1969

The Beatles' creativity surpassed Sgt. Pepper's and they focused solely on album structure. The fusion of multiple songs and the story-like flow of the album can be seen in many albums by other artists today. The odd and quirky lyrical content combined with mature and intelligent songwriting resulted in a very original and influential album.

Kind Of Blue
miles davis / 1959

Purely the fact that most of this album was improvised on the spot sends this album to the "genius" status. Miles Davis entered the studio with the framework for each song, which none of the musicians had ever seen until the day of recording. Besides that, the collection of musicians, including the influencial pianist, Bill Evans, the reserved, yet incredible drummer, Jimmy Cobb, and of course John Coltrane, build a strong argument for this album as one of history's greatest and most influencial jazz albums.

#4
The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
bob dylan / 1963

The greatest songwriter of all time was slowly begining to influence an entire generation when this album was released. This collection of songs sent Dylan down a road that he could only look back on and never return. His songwriting has been influencing generations and will continue to do so as time goes on.

Are You Experienced?
the jimi hendrix experience / 1967

Are You Experienced? is where we find unbelievable talent and originality in the fusion of blues and rock. Hendrix made it all sound so easy. Creative song structure along with great arrangement in the flow of the album creates an amazing journey through the genius of Jimi Hendrix.

IV
led zeppelin / 1971

Packed to the top with thick quality songs, this album contains a wide variety of styles without losing a bit of the signiture Led Zeppelin sound. With perfect sound and vocals, along with great lyrics, the quality does not get any better than this!

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely
Hearts Club Band

the beatles / 1967

A perfect album. Sgt. Pepper's took a structural approach that was not taken by many artists before 1967. The most popular band in the world changed their entire image and revolutionalized the concept of an album. Instead of focusing on each song individually, they focused on the album as a whole.
