by Kaare Kvenild I truly believe I have found the perfect album, and it is the self-titled album from brothers Jason (Starflyer 59) and Ronnie Martin (Joy Electric). Both of their groups are pioneering members of the Tooth & Nail record label movement of the 1990's. Jason's band giving us the ultimate in alternative rock; Ronnie's band brought electronica to the attention of many. Now I must admit, until the album Hello Mannequin, I was never a fan of Joy Electric, but have really come to enjoy and appreciate their most recent efforts. Starflyer 59, on the other hand, is my favorite band of all time. Now, combine the guitar heavy-experimental alternative rock of Jason with the synth pop melodies of Ronnie with both men's amazing lyricism and you get an album of extraordinary measure and skill that is truly one of the best releases so far this year.
