by Tim Mathiesen The music is beautiful. The lyrics are poetic. The voice, on the other hand, may take some getting used to.
Dan Bejar wrote a great collection of songs for Destroyer's Rubies. The sound is a combination
of folk and pop rock, keeping the music from straying too far to the extreme in any direction.
Bob Dylan-like singing combined with simple riffs and melodies sound boring, but when
it's built on a high level of creativity and talent, the album grows and deepens
during every listen. The layer upon layer of melody is spectacular. The singing, the guitar,
the bass and the rhythm all carry a significant part of each song. The listener can study
each segment and get lost in the album very easily. I'm still discovering new areas of the
album and I've been listening to it for weeks!
